Cong vows to uphold Gandhian legacy of Satyagraha

New Delhi,Sep 10 (UNI) To mark the occasion of completion of centenary of the birth of Satyagraha by Mahatma Gandhi in South Afica, the Congress Working Committee today resolved to rededicate itself to the noble ideas of the Father of the Nation and called upon all Indians to be true to the life and teachings of the Mahatma.

At its meeting, presided over by Congress President Sonia Gandhi,the CWC, the highest policy making body of the Congress, renewed its commitment to uphold the "precious Gandhian legacy in every way." "Gandhiji's satyagraha was without precedent or parallel because it combined the highest ethical principles with political acctivism in a noble cause,"the CWC said in a resolution passed at its special meeting to put on record the invaluable contribution of Gandhiji's Satygraha to India.

The resolution stated that "Gandhiji's relevance in the contemporary world is as great as it was when he led our movement for Independence." "The world is seeing the continuing spread of violence and hatred, the sustained propagation of bigotry and discord.Poverty and inequality are still very much with us . Self interest holds sway over concern for collective welfare." "Today the Indian National Congress reflects on its Gandhian legacy and renews its commitment to uphold that precious legacy in every day,"the resolution said.
