Rehabilitation of 39,153 affected families completed

Bhopal, Sep 9 (UNI) Rehabilitation of 39,153 affected families of the Indira Sagar project has been completed paving way for raising the height of the reservoir to 260 metre.

Only 53 families had not moved from the reservoir area so far.

Under the rehabilitation scheme, apart from compensation for affected agricultural land, special compensation against well, trees, damaged pipelines etc. had been provided, an official release here said today.

The affected families had also been provided with compensation against land acquired on April 13, 1987.

Besides, as per provisions of rehabilitation under section 4, adult male child and adult unmarried female child were being given rehabilitation facilities considering them as separate family units.

According to the field officer engaged in rehabilitation, it had been proved wrong that rehabilitation was not done satisfactorily.

The families were provided free transportation facility for transporting their belongings, while Rs 5,000 was paid as subsidy.

The SC/ST landless families and landless agricultural labourers were given Rs 18,700 as rehabilitation subsidy, while Rs 49,300 was provided as subsidy towards purchase of employment generating property.

Besides, Rs 9,350 rehabilitation subsidy and Rs 33,150 employment subsidy was given to landless families of other categories.

A total of Rs 12.49 billion has been disbursed so far to affected families under the provision of Indira Sagar project, the release added.
