R Jayram narrowly misses IBPA Book of the Year award to Auken
Mumbai, Sep 9 (UNI) R Jayram from India narrowly missed the International Bridge Press Association's (IBPA) Book of the Year Award, 2006 for his book 'Serendipity In Bridge'.
The award was won by Sabine Auken of Germany, the world's widely acclaimed lady bridge player, for her book 'I Love This Game'.
Auken's award-winning book recounts the fascinating recovery her German team had made in the closing stages of their final against France to win the Blue Riband of Ladies' Bridge, the Venice Cup, in Paris in 2001.
The book was chosen by an international panel of five experts, who after the initial elimination rounds, short-listed six books for final assessment, before deciding to hand the IBPA award to Sabine Auken.
According to information received here, the ceremony was held during the ongoing 48th European Championships in Warsaw and six books were short-listed. Besides the said two, four other contenders were also internationally well known bridge writers from Australia, Canada, England and Poland.
R Jayram is a Vadodara-based writer and has three books to his credit. Jayram, in his book, used the mindsport of bridge as an example in expounding the two-brain theory for better results in life.
Initially eyebrows were raised to this viewpoint in the global bridge circle but Jayaram's assertion that there is more to bridge and life, is gradually being accepted in the fraternity.
