Congress leader serves legal notice to Bihar power Corp MD

Patna, Sep 9 (UNI) Congress leader Prem Chandra Mishra today sent a legal notice to Bihar Hydroelectric Power Corporation Managing Director Lalan Prasad Sinha for issuing a statement claiming that Mr Mishra had threatened him.

Mr Mishra, who is also chief spokesman of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee, said if Mr Sinha failed to aplogise publicly, he would face legal action.

In the notice, Mr Mishra denied that he had ever threatened or pressurised the state HPC MD for money.

Mr Sinha recently said that Mr Mishra had been threatening him and demanded extortion on several occasions. This was published in a newspaper following which Mr Mishra served the legal notice.

Both Mr Mishra and Mr Sinha were at loggerheads following the statement of the Congress leader over a case filed by Mr Sinha against the Energy Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav.

Earlier Mr Sinha had filed a complaint case against Mr Yadav in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Patna in 1992, alleging that Mr Yadav had threatened him for extortion.

Later the court declared that Mr Yadav, the then energy minister in the Lalu cabinet, did not appear before the court despite issuance of non-bailable warrants as he was absconding.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader has said that Mr Yadav had suppressed the fact in his nomination papers filed at Supaul during the last assembly elections that a criminal case and NBW was pending against him and that he had been declared absconder by the court.

Demanding cancellation of Mr Yadav's membership in the state assembly, Mr Mishra handed over the memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer and the Bihar governor on August 3.

Mr Sinha, who was supposed to retire on August 31, filed a compromise petition before the same court in July this year.

Interestingly, Mr Sinha was given an extention on recommendation of the then Energy Minister, Mr Yadav. This incident triggered controversy in political arena and Mr Mishra issued a statement in which he said that the extension was a bonanza from Mr Yadav to Mr Sinha in lieu of the compromise petition.
