Vice-President to confer Shilp Gurus Awards tomorrow

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will give away the Shilp Guru Awards to legendary crafts persons of handicrafts industry here tomorrow.

He will confer 11 Shilp Gurus Awards each for the year 2003 and 2004 and seven awards for the year 2005.

The Shilp Guru Award carries a certificate, a gold coin and a shawl. Awards are given to master craftspersons for their work and dedication, which has contributed not only to the preservation of rich and diverse craft heritage of the country but also the resurgence of handicraft sector as a whole.

The Awards scheme was introduced in the year 2002 on the occasion of 'Golden Jubilee Year of Handicrafts Resurgence in India'.

Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan and the Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Mr D P Singh will also be present on the occasion.
