Shekhawat to give away Shilp Guru Awards tomorrow

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will present the Shilp Guru Awards to legendary master craftpersons here tomorrow.

Eleven craftspersons each will get the awards for 2003 and 2004 and seven more for 2005, an official release said today.

The Shilp Guru Awards were instituted in 2002 on the occasion of the golden jubilee year of handicrafts resurgence in India.

The awards carry a certificate, a gold coin and a shawl each.

''The awards are given to master craftpersons for their work and dedication, which has contributed to the preservation of the rich and diverse craft heritage,'' an official said.

Union Textiles Minister Shakersinh Vaghela and his deputy EVKS Elangovan will be taking part in the awards ceremony.
