Rodrigues inaugurates exhibition of rare photographs
Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen S F Rodrigues (retd) today inaugurated an exhibition of rare and un-published photographs by internationally acclaimed photographer Margaret Bourke, at Sukhna Lake here this evening.
The photographs depict the trauma and tragedy of partition and some of the photographs were published in the book 'Train to Pakistan' by Khushwant Singh.
Appreciating the art works, General Rodrigues said catching the historical traumatic events during partition in the camera was a challenging task and it is a tribute to thousands of known and unknown people who suffered, and many of whom lost their lives in the unfortunate tragedy.
He said this exhibition will be a great attraction for the people of Punjab, who faced the brunt of partition and paid a heavy price.
He appealed to the people to visit this exhibition to enrich their knowledge, which will remain open upto September 17.
In this special 50th anniversary edition of 'Train to Pakistan' truth meets fiction with stunning impact, as he recounts the trauma and tragedy of partition through the stories of his characters - stories that he, his family and friends themselves experienced or saw enacted, before their eyes.
A bestseller, when it was first published in 1956, Train to Pakistan is now widely accepted as one of the classics of modern Indian fiction.
