No WTO talks till developed nations slash farm subsidies: Centre

Varanasi, Sep 8 (UNI) India alongwith other developing countries will not come to the WTO talking table for opening its agriculture product market, if the developed countries did not slash down subsidies being provided to their farmers, Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said here today.

''We will not engage in WTO dialogue at the cost of our farmers,'' Mr Ramesh told newspersons here.

There is no way the Doha Round of talks are going to be followed by another round of WTO talks, if the developed nations did not leave their 'obduracy' over the issue.

Mr Ramesh said at a time when European farmers were providing subsidies to their farmers, which were double to farming subsidies being given in India, there is no reason developing nations could go ahead on the talks.
