NE gets 100 crores for border area development
Aizawl, Sep 8 (UNI) The Centre has earmarked Rs 102.3 crores for Border Area Development Programme (BADP) across the North Eastern(NE) region for 2007.
BADP would improve education, health, agriculture and allied sectors along with infrastructure development of the remote and inaccessible areas along the international border.
Arunachal Pradesh would get Rs 32.98 crore, Tripura (Rs 16.62 crore), Asom (Rs 13.52crore), Mizoram (Rs 13.02 crore), Manipur and Meghalaya (Rs 7.50 crore), Sikkim (Rs 6.58 crore) and Nagaland (Rs 4.78 crore), under the special central assistance on BADP, official sources said.
The funds would be utilised for the provision of safe drinking water in these areas, better primary health services, provision of public housing to the deprived ones living along the border areas and better primary education.
Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh share about 1643 km with Myanmar while Asom, Tripura, Mehalaya share a combined 1562 km with Bangladesh.
