Monsoon turns weak in region
Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) Monsoon turned weak in north-west India, eluding rains in Punjab and Haryana during the past 24 hours.
Except Amritsar in Punjab and Kalka in Haryana, the twin states, drapped in monsoon clouds, experienced no rains overnight, according to the Weather Office here. While Amritsar recorded 2.2 mm rainfall, Kalka, near here, was lashed by moderate downpour registering 7 mm till this morning.
The rainfall activity also diminished in Himachal Pradesh as only few areas in the state received rain which brought a considerable fall in the temperature. Pandoh in Mandi district was the wettest place in the state, recording 12.5 mm rain till this morning. Kasol, Barthin, Suni, Solang Nullah and Sundernagar areas also had rainfall.
The capital town of Shimla, experiencing foggy weather, had trace rainfall.
Tribal districts of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur and Pangi and Bharmour areas in Chamba district reeled under cold weather conditions following drop in the mercury.
Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were lashed by sharp showers this evening after an overcast sky during the day. The maximum humidity touched 90 per cent and the minimum 55 per cent in the city which recorded trace rainfall overnight, The Met Office said that moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers are likley to occur at few places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
