Iran in breach of UN requirements, 6 powers say
Berlin, Sept 8: Six world powers believe that Iran has failed to meet a UN Security Council demand that it suspend uranium enrichment, a senior European Union diplomat said, in a move which could pave the way for sanctions.
''We had a first discussion of next steps in the Security Council following the lines of resolution 1696,'' the diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said today.
The diplomat, who participated in a meeting of senior officials from Germany, France, Britain, the United States, Russia and China in Berlin, declined to give details about what these ''next steps'' would be.
He noted that further consultations between the powers would continue next week.
