India adopts wait-and-watch policy on Pak-Taliban agreement
New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) India today said it would wait and see how the recent agreement signed between the Pakistan government and the Pakistani Taliban in north Wazirstan actually worked on the ground.
The agreement forbids cross-border infiltration of the Taliban into Afghanistan.
Asked for his response to the agreement, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran told reporters India had no details about the agreement. "We want to see how this will work," he said.
According to him, if the agreement meant that the Taliban would have a free run, it would be "rather ominous." "But if, as is being argued by some, this will lead to better management of the borders, it could be a good thing.
The jury is still out on it," he added.
