High alert in NCR, border areas of Punjab

Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) Security has been alerted in the border districts of Gurdaspur, Amritsar and Ferozepur and the National Capital Region (NCR) of Haryana in the wake of Malegaon blasts in Maharsahtra today.

Special patrols have been laid at the Lakhanpur border, adjoining the territories of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, a Punjab police spokesman here said.

Shopping malls in Gurgaon and other public places in the NCR were brought under the heavy security scanner by the police here.

Security check drives were also launched at the entry points of the Union territory of Chandigarh, railways stations and bus stands in cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ambala, a senior official of the Chandigarh police here said.
