GAIL operates 850km in K G Basin
Visakhapatnam, Sep 8 (UNI) Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) Chairman and Managing Director S P Rao today said Gail operates 850 km of pipeline in K G basin area to supply 6.2 cubic mms cmd of natural gas to 34 customers.
Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Rao said the profits during the year 2005-06 increased by 18 per cent to Rs 2,310 crore as against Rs 1,954 crore in the previous financial year.
The turnover in the first quarter increased by 24 per cent to Rs 4,078 crore as against Rs 3,288 in the first quarter of the previous financial year. The Profit After Tax (PAT) also increased by 22 per cent, to Rs 592 crore, he added.
Mr Rao said GAIL was holding discussions with ONGC as well as the joint venture operators in Ravva fields to set up its production from the existing sources to tide over the prevailing tight supply situation of the IPP of Andhra Pradesh.
He also said that national gas grid project, the 1,700 km of pipeline network was proposed in the state and the proposed routes in the state were Ichapur-Srikakulam-Rajahmundry-Ongole-Suluret in the Kolkata-Chennai sector. Tuljapur-Secunderbad-Kakinada on Kakinda-urban sector and Chittor district in Bangalore-Chennai sector.
The detailed survey had been completed for all the routes. The proposed routes would connect the LNG sources from Dahej to Kakinada and to Kolkata.
The Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad transmission system had been conceptualized and laid by Gail from Vizag to Secunderabad with the prime objective of transporting LPG in a safe and uninterrupted manner from Vizag to oil companies located at Vijayawada and Secundrabad.
He also said that the GAIL was considering 1.0 million tonnes per annum gas cracker in Iran collaboration with national petro- chemical company Iran, in which the company plans to have a 50 per cent stake.
GAIL also formed joint venture with companies for supplies to households, commercial users and for the transport sector. Gail had plans of developing CNG infrastructures across the country as well as abroad.
Gail formed eight joint ventures in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Tripura, Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra and Pune. Gail would add more JVs to cover cities in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala and Karnataka also on the global front, he said.
