Famine affects 2000 families in Mizoram by Bamboo flowering
Aizawl, Sep 8 (UNI) With the fear of famine looming large following bamboo flowering, the Mizoram government swung into action by distributing free ration cards to 2,300 families already affected by alarming increase of rat population in southern part of the state.
State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs(FCSCA) minister K. Sangthuama held an emergency meeting with supplies department officials and resolved that 2,300 families in Champhai district would be given free rations from Bamboo Flowering and Famine Combat Scheme (BAFFACOS) funds.
According to FCSCA Director K. Lalnghinglova, the department had been allocated Rs 1,235 lakhs under BAFFACOS subsequently finalised sector of spending the funds.
Meanwhile, the fear of rodent multiplication has begun after farmers across the districts of Kolasib, Lunglei, Serrichip and Aizawl reported sightings of massive rodents proliferation in their paddy fields.
