Court takes cognizence of dismal condition of police stations

Patna, Sep 7 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed the state government to take immediate steps for improving the conditions of police stations in Bihar.

While hearing a PIL, a division bench of the court, comprising justice Narayan Rai and Justice Madhvendra Sharan, expressed anguish over the poor condition of the police stations and asked the government to immediately improve them.

The court also asked the government to apprise why action was not taken to improve the conditions of the police stations and the existing infrastructure there.

The court asked the government to file an affidavit and informed in details about actions taken by it till November 6.

Earlier, the state government had filed an affidavit in the court during the day and informed that 849 police stations were functional in the state, of which 496 had their own building, while 212 were housed in different government buildings.

According to the affidavit, 141 police stations were on rent in private buildings. Apart from this, 166 police stations had no lockup.

The Advocate General apprised the court that the government was taking appropriate steps to improve the conditions of the police stations.
