Convict escapes from hospital, 3 policemen suspended

Hardwar, Sep 8 (UNI) A convict serving life imprisonment for murder escaped from the district hospital here after complaining of pain.

Vijendra Singh, resident of Dadubas village under Bhagwanpur police station, had been admitted to the civil hospital yesterday after he complained of pain.

The convict managed to give the three constables on duty the slip even though he was handcuffed.

Top police and jail officials, including Superintendent of Police Jagat Ram Joshi and Jail superintendent Narendra Singh along with other officers, rushed to the hospital.

A case under sections 223 and 224 of the IPC has been registered at Hardwar Kotwali against the three cops --- Rajendra Sharma, Ram Singh and Asgar Ali -- police officials said.

The Jail Superintendent said Inspector General (Jail) of state Bhaskaranand Joshi had suspended all the three policemen for negligence.
