CMIE report puts Gujarat on top of industrial graph

Ahmedabad, Sep 8 (UNI) The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has cited in its August 2006 report that in industrial growth and capital investment till July this year, Gujarat has topped the list.

With a capital investment of Rs 2,76,365 crore, Gujarat overtook Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, state government spokespersons IK Jadeja and Saurabh Patel said today.

In a statement they said that Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 2,60,148 crore stood second, while Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 2,32,245 crore stood third. Karnataka was fourth, while Tamil Nadu came fifth.

The sum of Rs 2,76,365 crore was invested in 704 projects in the last four years in the state. The CMIE also said that Gujarat is a leader in industrial growth with maximum applications submitted for industrial projects.

The state stood first in capital investment, the spokespersons said adding that it was due to congenial industrial atmosphere that was attracting new ventures.
