CA course curriculum likely to be introduced in November
Mangalore, Sep 8 (UNI) Meeting the deadline set by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the new syllabus for Chartered Accountancy is expected to be introduced from November, with the Union Ministry for Company Affairs approving it and the Union Law Ministry set to follow suit in the next one week.
Informing this at a press conference after the three-day ICAI council meeting here today, ICAI President T N Manoharan said that as per the new curriculum, students would be able to complete the course in four years instead of five years and three months, without compromising on quality. It would promote non-exclusive areas such as consultancy and business and knowledge process outsourcing and would take care of disproportionate growth of the profession in urban and metro areas, he added.
Mr Manoharan said the Common Proficiency Test, replacing the Professional Education-I, would be held once in three months across the country in the traditional mode initially and online soon.
He informed that the ICAI had got global recognition with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre of Excellance for Applied Research and Training (CERT), Abu Dhabi, recently. The MoU signed by him and CERT Vice-Chairman Tayeb Kamali provided for the two institutions to conceptualise and devise an international curriculum in Accountancy, integrating local needs and keeping in mind various requirements of different levels of accountancy and audit professionals. It had agreed to review the existing education and skill sets in the area of accountancy and auditing and prepare strategic plan for the development of accountancy and auditing profession in the UAE.
The ICAI and CERT would also explore the possibility of setting up an independent institute for promoting chartered accountancy as a profession in the UAE. ICAI had earlier assisted formation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal. Besides, it had helped accountancy bodies in Sri Lanka and Nepal in launching the post qualification course on information systems audit, he said.
