Anti-submarine equipment handed over to Navy

Visakhapatnam, Sep 8 (UNI) Chief Controller of Defence R&D A Sivathanu Pillai today formally handed over the integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) equipment for the Navy's frontline warships to ENC's Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta function on board INS Ranjit.

A release from Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) here which developed the system quoted Dr Pillai as saying the induction of the ASW equipment into the Navy paved the way for smooth integration of indigenous weapon and decoy systems and at the same time supported existing inventory of the Navy.

NSTL Director V Bhujanga Rao said the system was developed within user time frame and cost Rs four crore as against Rs 30 crore for similar system of foreign origin.

Project Director C D Malleswar, while explaining the technical details, said the system was modular and reconfigurable with state-of-the-art hardware and software using open architecture.

The Navy had given orders to the Bangalore-based Bharat Electronics for two more systems.
