US photographic exhibition,'Picturing the century' inaugurated
Patna, Sep 7 (UNI) US Consulate General in Kolkata Henry V Jardine and Bihar Industry Minister Gautam Singh inaugurated a photographic exhibition 'Picturing the Century,' one hundered years of photographs from the national archives of the United States here today.
On this occasion, Mr Singh said, ''People of India and United States will have better understanding about their cultures. US is a unique amalgation of cultures of all countries.'' Expressing his views, Mr Jardine said the exhibition would provide opportunity to the people to get a glimpse of changing phases of lives in last one hundred years in the US.
Hosted by the US Consulate General, Kolkata, in collaboration with Bihar Industries Association (BIA) in Patna, the exhibits would remain open for public till September 8 to 16, 2006.
Selected from a million photographs from the collection of the National Archives of the United States, the exhibition illustrate the changes in American society over the last 100 years. The exhibit brings the world since the beginning of the 21st century, showcasing the work of some of the most outstanding photographers such as Lewis Line, Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, Edward Steichen and Russell.
The exhibition also portrayed the history of photography, specially government photography in the United States. The 157 photographs featured in this exhibition have either been taken by the government photographers or a part of the Federal records.
