UP getting out of flood's clutches
Lucknow, Sep 7 (UNI) People have a sign of relief in most districts of Uttar Pradesh as water level of prominent rivers continued to decrease the second day.
People in Faizabad, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Barabanki, Gonda and Lakhimpur Kheri heaved sigh of relief with the water level of major rivers including Saryu, turbulent Ghagra, Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda and Rapti decreasing.
Till now, all prominent rivers were in spate following the release of over 11 lakh cusecs of water from flood gripped Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Situation is now under control in Allahabad also, where the administration has issued a high allert to 250 villages.
A report from Hamirpur said with the decreasing water level of Betwa, situation has improved to some extent in Jhansi as well as Hamirpur.
Central Water Commission said Sharda in Paliakalan and Ghagra in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar were flowing below the danger mark.
While Yamuna was swelling in Agra, it was decreasing in Kalpi, Hamirpur, Mathura and Chillaghat.
On the other hand, Ganga continued to be in spate in Ballia and Ghazipur.The river was flowing 19 cm below the danger mark in Ballia.
While Hamirpur recorded 3 cm downpour, other districts remained dry.
Mercury has also hovered at many places following which people are reeling under sultry weather.Besides, load shedding was also reported at few places.
Meanwhile, rainfall/thundershowers is likely in Allahabad, Moradabad, Bareilly, Basti, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gorakhpur, Sitapur, Kanpur and Varanasi in the next 24 hrs.
