Trescothick needs professional help for personal woes: Burns

London, Sep 7 (UNI) Marcus Trescothick's decision to skip the Champions Trophy in India has raised concerns over his mental well-being with a former Somerset teammate saying that the England opener was going through a tough phase in his life and would need professional help to get over the troubled times.

''Team environments aren't always the best places for some if they are experiencing personal difficulties,'' Neil Burns, who played with Trescothick in county cricket and is now the chief executive of the coaching organisation of a club in London, told 'The Times'.

Burns said he could understand why Trescothick decided to give India a miss as he knew some of the reasons of his decision to leave the tour to the country midway in February. Burns said Trescothick's problems needed professional help.

''If problems are buried very deep down, they may require professional assistance to deal with what can become a serious crisis. That's why, historically, some professional sportspeople, especially cricketers, have lost their way on occasions,'' he said. ''I think that, with specialist support, Marcus will have a very good chance of working through what is a very difficult time for him,'' he added.
