Three baby peacocks born at Vandalur Zoological Park
Chennai, Sep 7 (UNI) A seven-year-old albino peacock has given birth to three young ones at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP) at Vandalur, about 35 km from here.
AAZP Director P L Ananthasamy told UNI here today the three hatchlings were in good condition and weighed about 50 gm at the time of birth. ''They are doing very well and are being looked after well by all of us, the newborns are being fed with grains and vegetables'', he said.
''The white peacock laid six eggs on July 12 of which three hatched on August eight'', he added.
The AAZP has 25 peacocks, of which 13 were white, and five male.
He said these peacocks are normally found in the dense forest areas of India and Sri Lanka. Due to the changed food habits in the AAZP, where they are being fed with grains, cabbage, spinach and boiled eggs, they bred in July, instead of April or May, whereas in the wild, peacocks ate grains, vegetables, insects and snakes.
