Protestors stage dharna to oppose proposed GAIL project

Guwahati, Sep 7 (UNI) Six persons were injured today when protestors tried to prevent a GAIL survey team and staged dharna in the Lepetkata Kakatigaon area in Dibrugarh district of Asom to oppose the proposed Rs 5400 crore gas cracker of the company.

When police and CRPF personnel accompanying the GAIL team asked the protestors to move from the area, they turned a violent and pelted stones on police.

The police resorted to mild lathi-charge and exploded tear gas shells injuring at least six of them.

The GAIL team went to the site to carry out a survey. The state government would allot 3300 bighas of land for the project.
