No controversy on Vande Mataram in HP

Shimla, Sep 7 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh joined the nation in singing the ''Vande Mataram'' on its centenary celebration today by organizing several functions at the state, district, sub-division and tehsil level on the occasion, an official spokesman said.

A state level function, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, was organised in the state secretariat here at 1100 hrs, he said.

The spokesman said similar functions were also organized at district headquarters under the chairmanship of deputy commissioners and at sub-division level under the chairmanship of SDMs.

Educational institutions in the state also held similar functions, without any organisation and or group refusing to sing the song, he said.

He said no political party of any other religious group had protested against the singing of the song anywhere in the state.
