Nepalese delegation visits Rly Aids Prevention Society
Vijayawada, Sep 7 (UNI) A delegation from Nepal visited the Railway Women Empowerment and Aids Prevention Society (REAPS) here for two days from September 6 for exposure, Vijayawada Railway Divisional Manager (DRM) S K Sarma today said.
Talking to mediapersons, he said the team also visited the Railway Junior College and interacted with students who had benefited from teaching life skills modules.
The delegation also visited the Electrical Traction Training Institute, where regular sessions were held for trainees on HIV prevention with focus on the gender aspects of the disease.
They toured the Handicrafts Centre at Satyanarayanapuram to get a feel of how the project worked and learn of changes in the attitude of members towards HIV, he added.
Later, the team met peer counsellors who were the backbone of the REAPS project and studied the situation on the ground.
The team comprised Salina Joshi, Manju Gurung Pourakhi, Usha Bhatta, Bikash Pyakurel, Basundara Adhikari, Sani Kanchi and Hira Pandey.
REAPS was launched in April 2002. A revolving fund under the aegis of the South Central Railway Women's Welfare Organisation provided the money for activities.
