Milk prices raised across Delhi; Residents oppose the move

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) Price of milk in the national capital went up by 50 paise to Rs one as Mother Dairy and Amul introduced the new rates from today.

Mother Dairy said it had increased the prices of all its variants by one rupee whereas Amul raised the rates by 50 paise on 500 ml pack, Rs 1.50 on 1 litre pack and by Rs 5 on five litre pack size of all its variants.

''The step was to enable dairy cooperatives to pay a higher price to rural milk producers and to offset the increase in cost of processing and distribution,'' Mother dairy said.

Amul nullified the old prices printed on its milk packs, saying, ''we have revised prices due to an increase in input costs''.

Opposing the price hike, Resident Welfare Associations across Delhi demanded a roll back.

They said the hike was not justified as it was the second such move in the past six months and would further burden the common man.

''This is an anti-peoples move. It will adversely affect the household budget of residents of Delhi. The Milk distribution companies working as cartel should immediately roll it back,'' Ram Vihar RAW V N Bali said.
