Srinagar, Sep 7 (UNI) As a part of mass education programme among Muslims, Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Council has decided to open wakf schools, where children would be imparted modern and Islamic education.
The schools would be established with modern facilities in various parts across the state, Minister for Haj and Auqaf and Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said at the 7th Wakf Council meeting here, an official spokesman said today.
He said a Wakf committee for academics was also constituted to frame the modalities for setting up these schools.
Peerzada said modern and technical education besides Islamic education has also been included in the curriculum in Wakf school.
He directed the committee to consult renowned Muslim educationists of the state in this connection so that these institutions would come up at par with other leading educational institutions.
He asked the Wakf Committee for Academics to work on this project and send their recommendations to Wakf Council so that, steps can be taken in this regard as early as possible.
The council also gave its consent for constitution of Tehsil Auqaf Committees (TAC) and directed the government to constitute these committees and appoint administrator wherever necessary within a month.
With regard to entries of Wakf properties into revenue records, it was decided to send a complete Wakf property list of the state to revenue secretary at the earliest to take necessary steps.
Similarly, to evacuate 29 kanals of Wakf land from the Army (16 Signals Regiment), the council has decided to take up this matter with Army through Civil Liaison officer.
For opening of old Masjid (Peace of Old Islamic Architect) for prayers at Chaki Jaffer, Jammu, the council has decided to approach the Chief Minister for his intervention. The council has also approved its budget outlay for 2006-07 of Rs 7 crore for its eleven functional units.
It has also approved another lease of 8 kanals of Wakf land out of 62, in favour of Health department for setting up of Primary Health Centre at Gol Gujral on rental basis, without changing the title of the land as the population of the area needs it badly.
On the remaining land, some plots would also be given to the displaced occupants of Eidgah, Jammu, after completing all codal formalities.
Winding up the meeting, Peerzada said that during last 10 months after he took the charge of the department, Rs 1.50 crore revenue has been generated and it would touch Rs 3 crore at the end of this fiscal year.
