Srinagar, Sep 7 (UNI) About 500 people, including women and children, were rescued by the Jammu and Kashmir police with the help of other civil departments from the flood-affected areas in the Anantnag district.

This was stated at a high-level meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Basharat Ahmed and attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir S M Sahai at Anantnag today.

The district administration had formed 10 rescue teams of police.

These teams provided boats and conducted rescue operations on the need basis and round-the-clock.

The meeting was told that 60 people were rescued from Pathnuee, Srigufwara and Bijbehara villages, 57 from Fohar, Aishmuqam, 67 from Dachigam, Aishmuqam, 71 from Amadzoo, Aishmuqam, 45 from Batapora Sallar, Aishmuqam, 142 non-local labourers from Brakpora and Batpora brick kiln.

Police also rescued marooned people from Panditop Chee, Amirpora Mattan and Nunwani in Anantnag district.
