Haryana invites European Business Group to invest in the State

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today called upon the European Business Group to invest in Haryana for conducive and good business ventures.

Addressing a meeting of the Members of European Business Group here, Mr Hooda said Haryana Government has implemented liberal industrial policy for boosting trade and industry in the state and to facilitate the entrepreneurs and investors.

''We have identified thrust areas like Agro-based and Food Processing, Electronics and IT, Automobiles and Auto Components, Handloom, Hosiery, Textiles, Footwear and Leather Garments and export-oriented units for investment in the State after analysing their growth potential and long term sustainability,'' he said.

In addition, Haryana is also looking for private sector participation in the development of new industrial estates, special economic zones and industrial model townships. Private sector participation is also welcome in the core sectors of power and transport beside the social infrastructure, the Chief Minister said.

Mr Hooda informed that during a span of one-and-a-half year, Haryana has witnessed an unprecedented spurt in investment. It has received concrete proposals for investment to the tune of about Rs 35,000 crore.

Besides this, a proposal for setting up 60 SEZs has been received out of which 37 have been approved in principle by the Centre including the mega SEZ project of Reliance Industries Ltd.

The Reliance Haryana SEZ Project would catalyse an investment of Rs 100,000 crore and generate employment directly and indirectly for more than half a million persons besides adding Rs 10,000 crore per annum by way of revenue to the State Exchequer.

The SEZ would eventually emerge as a satellite city to Gurgaon with truly international standard infrastructure.

He mentioned that Haryana has attracted substantial FDI from EU.

About 386 industrial units have been set up in the state in technical and financial collaboration with the companies from EU pushing FDI of Rs 14.70 billion in the state. There is a strong presence of European companies in Haryana. Prominent amongst these are: Siemens, G E, Alcatel, Benetton, Perfetti, Baxter and Smithkline Beecham.

A number of products or goods such as readymade garments, cotton yarn or fabrics or made- ups, machinery and instruments etc are being exported by the industrial units of Haryana to EU.

He said that today, Haryana has more than fifty per cent share in the manufacture of passenger cars, motor cycles and scooters produced in the country. More than 25 per cent production in tractors, bicycles and sanitary ware manufactured in the country comes from this state.
