Employment of children to be treated as hazardous employment
Bangalore, Sep 7 (UNI) Employment of children, as domestic workers or servants in homes or hotels, will be treated as hazardous employment under the amended Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act).
In a release here today, the Labour Commissioner said owners of houses, dhabas, restaurants, hotels, motels, tea shops, resorts, spas and other recreational centres were advised not to employ children.
Violation of the Act and Rules would attract a fine of Rs 20,000 as compensation for every child as ordered by the Supreme Court, in addition to further claims of minimum wages.
On conviction, the violator would have to undergo imprisonment between three months and two years, pay a fine of 10,000 to Rs 20,000, or both, the release added.
