Amid light shower and under petritoism fever sing Vande Mataram in r

Rajkot, Sep 7 (UNI) Hindus and Muslims came together today to render the ''Vande Mataram'' at several places in the city to commemorate the centenary of the National Song.

Bharatiya Janata Party minority cell members assembled at the Kisan Para Chowk here this morning, unmindful of the light showers, and sang the National Song. Nearly 400 Muslim students from ''madarasas'' joined in the programme at Ramnath Para.

Corporator Hasambhai Tayani and other minority community members gathered at the Jubilee Chowk here, near Mahatma Gandhi's statue, and renderred the song.

Saurashtra University Vice Chancellor Dr Kamlesh Joshipura and Rajya Sabha member Vijay Rupani led the students in singing the National Song in the University campus. The University also hosted cultural programmes on the occasion.

The melody of ''Vande Mataram'' also wafted in the civic corridors with Mayor Dhansukh Bhanderi and Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar leading the function in the municipal corporation.

Standing Committee Chairman Nitin Bhardwaj, BJP MP Haribhai Patel and others assembled at Kotecha Chowk this morning and rendered the ''Vande Mataram''.

Similar functions were also organised by employees at the Information Department and Archaeological Department. In Junagadh, at Gandhi Chowk, former Veraval MLA Mohammad Hussain Baloch and other minority community members joined Hindus in singing ''Vande Mataram'' after garlanding Mahatma Gandhi's statue.
