Amarinder Singh grants Rs one crore to HC Bar Association
Chandigarh, Sep 7 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today announced a grant of Rs one crore to the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association to be spent towards renovation and reinforcing amenities for the lawyers and the litigants at the court complex here.
At a function held at the new Bar Complex premises this afternoon, the Chief Minister said he was aware of the needs of the legal profession and promised to do whatever he could towards their welfare.
Referring to the demand of allotment of 10 acres of land for the housing complex for the lawyers at Mohali near here, he assured to examine and consider the request.
Mr Singh spoke at length about the achievements of his government over the past four and a half years including strengthening economic infrastructure compared to the times of the previous regime.
He also disclosed an international airport is intended to be built in an area of 300 acres around Mohali, while upgrading of Chandigarh Airport too was underway. In short, Punjab has moved far ahead from the times of economic crisis that gripped the previous regime and was now in a phase where it could well be termed as a period of economic confidence.
While speaking to newspersons informally, the Chief Minister reiterated that his government had implemented the programmes and the promises contained in the Congress manifesto issued at the time of general elections in 2002.
Asked what were the plans for the new manifesto, Capt Amarinder Singh said, ''We would come out with new programmes at an appropriate time.'' Capt Singh reiterated that rare birds at his Dochi farm in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh were kept strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Wild Life laws.
Earlier, the Chief Minister was welcomed among others by the acting Chief Justice H S Bedi, Association president and secretary Dr Anmol Rattan Sidhu and Amandeep Singh members of the executive.
