Agatha Christie fans to celebrate her 126th birthday
New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) A week of discussion, quiz and her books will mark the 126th birth anniversary of the 'Queen of Crime' Agatha Christie in the capital.
Fans of the creator of detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple begin the celebrations this week though her birthday falls on September 15.
The British Council Library will have special display of Agatha Christie's works including novels, short stories, plays, plays adapted into novels and DVDs of movies based on her novels till September 16.
A panel discussion on the relevance of her writings in the 21st century is another event. Shormishtha Panja, the Dean of Faculty of Arts and head of the department of English, Delhi University and film-maker Pankaj Butalia will join the panel discussion along with university students on September 15.
A mystery quiz on September 16 at the British Council Library is another highlight of the week followed by the screening of a film based on one of her novels. 'Death on the Nile' or 'Murder on the Orient Express' could be the choice.
''This is the first time we are celebrating the birth anniversary of Agatha Christie at the library and the members are excited about it,'' said Sudha Munjal, deputy head of British Council library and information services (North India).
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, two billion copies of Agatha Christie books have been sold across the world.
In fact, she is outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare.
