8 militants and police constable among ten killed in J

Srinagar, Sep 7 (UNI) Eight militants and a police constable were among ten people killed while one Lashker militant escaped in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said troops of 82 batallion BSF killed two militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) at Gulshan Abad village in south Kashmir district of Pulwama early this morning. The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants hiding in the village. Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

Acting on a specific information, troops cordoned off the forest area in Rajwara area of Handwara in north Kashmir yesterday to nab the militants, sources informed.

As the troops were sealing the woods, militants attacked with automatic weapons and hurled grenades at them.

The troops retaliated, killing three militants of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) in the night-long encounter. Three AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

Security forces launched a massive search in the nearby forest area, they said.

Sources said militants shot dead a selection grenade constable of Jammu and Kashmir police Abdul Gaffar at Kralgund village last night.
