15 rescued in Khedbrahma
Palanpur, Gujarat, Sep 7 (UNI) Fifteen people, including four women and three children, who were stranded since last evening due to rise in water level of the Haranav river after water was released from the Haranav dam near Khedbrahma taluka, were rescued here today.
Sabarkantha district collector B H Ghodesariya said all the fifteen people, belonging to the Bharwad community, hailed from Rajasthan and had halted at a place that virtually turned into an island because of the gushing waters from the Haranav and Hatmati rivers. They had been warned of the impending flood threat, the collector said.
They Bharwads said they lost around 1200 sheep and seven camels who were feared drowned.
The Khedbrahma taluka had received 220 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. The main bridge, linking Ambaji with Ahmedabad, had also been damaged due to the incessant rains.
Around 100 ''kuccha'' houses were damaged in Modasa. Elsewhere, no major loss to life or property was reported from the district.
