Women police force to be strengthened in Meghalaya: Women orgs

Shillong, Sep 6 (UNI) Ka Lympung ki Seng Kynthei, a conglomeration of women's organisation, has asked the Meghalaya government to explore possibilities of creating a separate Women Police Force in the state.

The women's organisation demanded that different forms of crimes and atrocities against women and minors, including kidnapping of children in various parts of the state, are on rise.

In a memorandum submitted to state Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh, the organisation said women in Meghalaya were no longer lacking behind and could take challenging tasks. Women police have proved their efficiency in tackling various crimes.

Appreciating the government's decision to set up women cells, the organisation requested the Rymbai-led government to strengthen women police force.
