UN report on women migration released
Bhopal, Sep 6(UNI) The state of world population report 2006, dedicated to the issues of women in migration, was released here today as part of its universal release.
Published by United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA), the report, released by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, examines the impact of female labour migration on source and destination countries, remittances and discusses the benefits of globalization and its negative impact.
UNFPA State Coordinator Dr D K Mangal told the Chief Minister that 9.5 crore women constituted the world's migrating population.
The contributions of women to global economies as labour, professionals and even caretakers of the sick, elders and weaker are being recognised now.
A special session of the United Nations is scheduled on September 14 and 15 in New York to discuss about women migrants, their human rights and related issues. All representative countries would discuss the possible strategies.
''Migrant women have to face multiple challenges in the destination countries and have to take risks, while they contribute to the economies'', said the report titled ''A passage to hope-an international migration''.
