Two eclipses in September

Hyderabad, Sep 6 (UNI) A lunar and an annular eclipse will occur on September 7 and 22 respectively, sparking interest in scientific circles.

In a press release, B M Birla Science Centre Director B G Siddarth said the lunar eclipse would occur at 2212 hrs and continue for about one hour and 23 minutes on September 7.

The maximum partial eclipse would occur at 20 minutes past midnight, when about 19 per cent of the moon would be eclipsed. It would end at 0107 hrs on September 8.

He said a rare annular eclipse would occur on September 22 when the sun would appear like a ring or bangle. The solar eclipse would begin on September 22 at 1409 hours when the moon's shadow would fall on earth. The maximum phase would be at 1710 hours, when 94 per cent of the sun would be covered. The eclipse would end at 2010 hours.

The eclipse will not be visible in India and can be seen from the Caribbean, including Guyana, Surinam and South Atlantic Ocean.

The end of the eclipse can be seen from the South West of Kerguelan Islands.
