Thousands participate in Ganesh immersion festival in Surat

Surat, Sep 6 (UNI) Thousands of people, including women and children, today participated in the Ganesh immersion ceremony here with traditional enthusiasm and gaiety amid tight security.

Thousands of vehicles carrying colourful idols of Lord Ganesha went to the river Tapi to immerse the idols.

Besides heavy security blanket, the police had also imposed a ban on the SMS service of all mobile service providers.

''SMS service is banned from 1200 hrs to 2400 hrs to prevent any rumour mongering. No untoward incident was reported,'' police added.
