SC directs Centre to allot bungalows to its judges first
New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the central government that if any Type-8 government bungalow falls vacant it will be first offered to its Registrar General for being alloted to the apex court judges who are presently living in accomodations below their entitlement.
At present the apex court requires two Type-8 bungalows for its judges.
Earlier when three Supreme Court judges were waiting for allotment of bungalows, the Union Urban Development Ministry had informed the Court that no Type-8 bunglows were available for being alloted to its judges. One was however available later but two judges still remained to be alloted Type-8 bunglows.
In the meantime, the Court allowed the application of former Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptullah seeking extension of time for vacating government bungalow no 4, Akbar Road.
A bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal, P P Naolekar and Lokeshwar Singh Panta granted four weeks time to the applicant for vacating her bungalow.
Heptullah had earlier prayed for more time on the ground that Central Public Works Department(CPWD) was yet to complete renovation at bungalow no 16 at Teenmurti Lane which had been alloted then, in her capacity as a member of Rajya Sabha.
