Rathore wins double trap Gold, India win team Gold at Asian Clay
Singapore, Sep 6 (UNI) Ace marksman Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore did an encore of his last year's performance and defended his Double Trap Gold besides helping India win the team Gold as well at the Asian Clay Shooting here today.
Silver medallist at the Athens Olympics, Rathore shot 142 (46,47,49) in the qualifications and followed it up scoring 48 in the finals to aggregate 190 to pocket the Gold.
Fellow Indian Ronjan Sodhi, however, missed the Bronze by a whisker after losing the tie shoot for the third place and settled for the fourth position with a score of 185 (138+47) with identical series of 46,46 and 46 in the qualifications. Rashid Al-Athba of Qatar won the bronze after winning the tie shoot against Ronjan 2-1.
The Silver was won by Saif Alshamsy of UAE with a score of 186 (141+45) Vikram Bhatnagar missed the finals for the top six by just a point and finished 10th with a score of 136 (46,46,44) in the qualifications. Another Indian in the event, Vikram Chopra, finished 15th with a score of 132 (42,45,45) in the qualifications.
In the team event India, represented by Rathore, Sodhi and Bhatnagar, won the Gold with a total score of 416, while the Silver was won by Chinese Taipei with a score of 409 while UAE won the Bronze with 406.
