Kolhapur, Sangli Dists give enthusiastic farewell to Lord Ganesh

Kolhapur, Sep 6 (UNI) The people of Western Maharashtra's Kolhapur and Sangli districts bid a traditional farewell to Lord Ganesh on the auspicious occasion of 'Anant Chaturdashi' to mark the end of the eleven-day long Ganesh festival today.

Amid enthusiastic festivity, the Ganesh idol immersion processions got underway this morning in these two districts to the chants of 'Ganpati bappa morya', accompanied by the reverberating sounds of dhols, lezim and cymbals.

In Kolhapur, the main procession was led by traditional Tukaram Mali Ganesh Mandal, whose idol got underway after Mayor Sai Kharade and District Collector Pravin Darade performed puja near the Khasabag wrestling arena at about 0900 hrs.

About 200 idols were immersed at places like the Panchaganga river, Kotitirth and Irani Khan till this evening. The immersion activity is expected to continue till tomorrow morning, police said and added no untoward incident has occurred so far.
