Inzamam becomes most capped ODI player
Lahore, Sep 6 (UNI) Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq became the most capped one-day player during his side's two wicket win over England in the third ODI at the Rose Bowl, surpassing veteran Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya's 364 appearances.
Inzamam will increase his lead over his nearest rivals with two more ODIs at hand against England in the ongoing 5-match NatWest series.
But, his milestone of 365 ODI caps could be shortlived as Indian Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is at a close third with 363 matches so far and has chances of playing five matches in the Malaysian tri-series from September 12 to 24 with Australia and the West Indies as the other two teams.
In the tri-series, the three teams play each other twice in the league matches before the top two teams lock horns in the final.
If India reach the final in Malaysia and Tendulkar plays in all the matches featuring India, he would surpass the Pakistani captain.
Inzamam, who made his one-day debut on November 22, 1991, at Gadaffi Stadium here against the West Indies when he was 21 years of age, has so far scored 11500 runs (including 44 he scored at Rose Bowl) at an average close to 40 (39.93) with ten centuries and a record 83 fifties.
The 36-year-old from Multan played a major role in Pakistan's 1992 World Cup triumph in Australia and New Zealand.
After taking over as captain in 2003, Inzamam has played 76 ODI matches, winning 46 of them. His personal contribution while captaining is 2526 runs at an average of 45.92 including two centuries and 18 fifties.
In Test arena, he has so far scored 8498 runs from 113 matches at an average of 50.88 with 25 hundreds and 44 fifties.
