India beaten 2-3 by Germany in World Cup hockey opener
Monchengladbach, Sep 6 (UNI) Shivendra Singh's brace went in vain as Christopher Zeller's last gasp goal saw Germany down a spirited India 2-1 in the hockey World Cup opener here today.
Zeller had opened the German account in the first half and the hosts led 1-0 at breather.
In the second half, a spirited India drew parity with Shivendra scoring his first goal but Germany regained lead through Oliver Hentschel before India caught up again with Shivendra sounding the board for the second time of the day.
In the dying minutes, Zeller denied India any point from the outing by scoring the winner.
