HP earmarks Rs 50 crore for construction of 10 college buildings
Shimla, Sep 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that his government has made a provision of Rs 50 crore, which would be spent on the construction of 10 Degree college buildings in the state during the year.
Addressing students and people at Seema Government Degree College, near Rohru, he said the provision had only been made for those colleges that were made functional during the present financial year.
Mr Singh said majority of the degree colleges had been opened in interior parts of the state to ensure higher education facilities to students of rural areas near their homes.
Besides, making 10 Degree colleges functional during the financial year, the state government has also taken over four private degree colleges to ensure the students get best education facilities, he said.
He said the budgetary provision of Rs 50 crore would help in constructing building for the new colleges besides maintaining and repairing the existing structures wherever available.
The authorities have been directed to complete the buildings within a period of one year so that students could pursue their studies without any hassles, he said.
The Chief Minister said his government was committed to provide access to higher education to all sections of the society and that was why new degree colleges were being opened in remote areas of the state.
The state government was considering a proposal to introduce vocational education in all the higher educational institutions of the state, he said, adding this would help the students in acquiring skills that would get them jobs after completing their studies.
He said that government had also permitted opening of number of vocational institutions in private sector to supplement endeavours of the state government.
