DYFI members held for protesting against neglect of Tamil
Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu Sep 6 (UNI) Police today arrested 750 members of Democratic Youth Federation of India(DYFI) for protesting against denying Tamil language its due status at the Nataraja temple in Chidambaram near here.
Talking to newspersons here DYFI State President and MLA S K Mahendran said the State Government should enact a Law to bring the temple under the purview of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment(HR&CE) Act.
Mr Mahendran said Tamil has been declared as a ''Classical Language''. DYFI would resort to agitation against the denigration of the language not only in Chidambaram temple, but all over the State, he added.
The Government should consult Legal experts to fight against the Chidambaram Munsif Court ruling which gave its verdict against reciting Tamil slokas and songs in the temple, though the temple was built by Tamilians, he added.
