Army operation against ULFA to remain halted till Sep 15
New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) The suspension of army operations against United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), which has not so far accepted the three conditions put forward by the government for the release of the five jailed leaders of the outlawed outfit, has been extended till September 15.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting National Security Advisor (NSA) M K Narayanan and Home Secretary V K Duggal had with Assamese writer Indira Goswami, one of the two coordinators of the ULFA-appointed 11-member People's Consultative Group (PCG) of civil society leaders, here late last night.
Ms Goswami told UNI here today that she requested extension of the ceasefire by 15 days. But the government agreed only for 10 days. She, however, hoped that it would be extended for a total of 15 days.
