Apparel park attracts investment of Rs 120 crore

Bangalore, Sep 6 (UNI) An investment of Rs 120 crore has been proposed by ten of the 28 apparel units, which had sought space in the first-ever apparel park of the Karnataka Government, located at Doddaballapur in Bangalore Rural district.

According to a study conducted by the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs here, the turnover of these companies was estimated at around Rs 350 crore with the annual working capital expenditure put at Rs 45 crore.

A questionnaire circulated among the 28 units that have been allotted industrial sites at the park had evoked response only from 12. Of them, five units have not taken possession of the site alloted to them, one unit had commenced production and three were under construction. While eleven units have finalised their project report, one was yet to do so.

A wide variety of apparels, including denim, designer wear, silk sarees, wet and dry processing garments, readymade garments and fabrics, would be manufactured in these units. While the largest investor in capital expenditure was Ever Blue Apparel, which had indicated an investment of Rs 42 crore, the highest turnover would be from Sri Anjaneya Cotton Mills Pvt Ltd, which had indicated its turnover to be over Rs 100 crore.

The study said the main problems faced by the manufacturers in the park were lack of common effluent treatment facilities, inadequate supply of quality power and water, besides lack of transport facilities.

The study wanted the Government to take up development of the remaining two phases of the project at the earliest to enable more units start their operations and ensure adequate power. Seeking a separate five MW power generating unit for the park, it suggested that alternatively, a separate transmission line could be drawn from the Yelahanka Diesel power generation plant.
